Parliament welcomes NFL London Games 2018
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for American Football has welcomed the announcement of the London Games for 2018 by the NFL.
A motion has been tabled in the House of Commons by Chris Stephens MP following the announcement of three London Games for 2018.
The Oakland Raiders will host the Seattle Seahawks in the first London game of 2018 at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium on 14 October. On 21 October and 28 October, the Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Philadelphia Eagles, whilst the Los Angeles Chargers will face the Tennessee Titans. Those games will both take place at Wembley Stadium, with the order of the games to be confirmed.
The motion “notes that by the end of 2018, the NFL will have played 24 regular-season games in London since 2007” and “looks forward to welcoming the Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans to the UK”.
After tabling the motion, Member of Parliament for Glasgow South West and Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for American Football, Chris Stephens MP, said “it is fantastic that the United Kingdom will once again host a number of NFL regular season games in 2018, and we look forward to welcoming players and fans from across the world. As well as delivering significant economic benefits, I hope that these games will inspire more people across the United Kingdom to take part in this great sport.”
All-Party Parliamentary Group for American Football Chair and Member of Parliament for Wellingborough, Peter Bone MP, said “I am delighted that three NFL games will be played in London this year, featuring three teams on their London debuts. Since the NFL started to bring games to the United Kingdom in 2007, American football has grown rapidly across the country for players and spectators, and I hope that in the coming years we will see the establishment of a full NFL franchise in London.”
